Space is the Place
Private Group active 2 years, 3 months agoSpace is both factual and fictitious. In this course we will examine how facts and fiction come together in the process of mapping. Starting from Paul Gilroy’s ‘The Black Atlantic’ and Michel Foucault’s ‘Different Spaces’, we will refill the world map with our own concepts, routes, places, theories and stories. We will focus in particular on ‘black’ literature and music, and their relation to the places that these art forms derive from. During this course, our ship (Michel Foucault/Paul Gilroy), line of flight (Gilles Deleuze) or Mothership (George Clinton) will take us from the Underground Cellars of the Harlem Renaissance to the Outer Space of Afrofuturism.
